SHOWCASE: MILKBAR FASHION
How did Milkbar Fashion come about?
Milkbar Fashion has been in my mind for a some time and launched earlier this year. When i was a kid I would skip up from the beach or the neighbors swimming pool to get a milkshake and a bag of mixed lollies from the local Milkbar. That feeling of excitement, feeling carefree is where my vision came from for Milkbar Fashion.. cause how much fun was that!? Why is it that as we get older, the simple things in life seem to matter less? Why is it that the we underestimate the wardrobe choices we made as a child?
We all looked great when we look back at those faded photos the key is we felt good!
That is what style and fashion is for me. Having worked in the fashion Industry for over 10 years I decided to create Milkbar Fashion an online shopping experience with style to mirror the ease of those effortless and fun summer days.
What is your first fashion memory?
I remember having my first big birthday party, I think I was 10! My mum took me shopping for the day & I got to pick my outfit. I was such a tomboy growing up & this dress had a full skirt which swirled around, a big bow around the waist and scalloped neckline I felt like such a girl!!
Who are your style icons?
Audrey Hepburn for her classic, effortless style. Audrey had a clear mind as to what looked good on her and she stayed true to her own style all her life& Kate Moss because she is the ultimate rule breaker! It is always about the clothes for Kate, never the Fashion.
What is your favourite look for the season?
It is all about White this season & I cant go past an effortless white summer dress! I also love the Un-even Hemline that is all over our dresss this season, why? Because its playful!
What are the biggest challenges?
Having to put on all the hats everyday.! Running your own business means you are the stylist, buyer, accountant, marketing manager, IT consultant, website designer all in one day!.
How do you stay motivated?
I set myself realistic goals every month, it is important to have a focus & remember where you are going! I have these goals pinned to the wall so I remember on a daily basis what I am trying to achieve.
What advice would you give to someone trying to start their own businesses?
Accept that there will be challenges & a long uphill battle! There will be days of complete self-doubt & days of a great sense of achievement. Recognise this but remember if you keep your head down hard work will always be rewarded.I set myself realistic goals every month, it is important to have a focus & remember where you are going! I have these goals pinned to the wall so I remember on a daily basis what I am trying to achieve.
Although it is lots of hard work & most definitely challenging, the sense of achievement is worth all the hard work. A sense of self achievement is a great thing!
